A few small issue
A few small issue
OK I am installing my Jet Hots on Saturday and I previously bought a set of Taylor wires, NOT OVC. I bought the heat sleeves for these after I got the headers and realized they are going to get torched. The thing is the heat sleeves are like 6 inches long. What the heck are things things going to protect? For $45 I think they should cover the WHOLE wire
But anyway do the heat sleeves cover the part of the wire coming from the spark plug?
Oh and do I HAVE to use heat tape when i install these headers? I am broke but want to install them, but I dont want to melt half the engine bay because I am impatient. So is heat wrap on the brake lines and all that absolutely neccassary or can i modify these alittle to keep them from burning up?
Thanks for anything advice you give me.
Mike

Much harder to to do the relocating and heat taping AFTER the headers are in, you want to do this stuff BEFORE the headers go in but after you have the manifolds out.
Every car is different when it comes to this stuff but here is what I had to do and the stuff I did cause I thought I might have a problem down the road.
Had to do:
Relocate the starter wires, knock sensor wire, and the ground wire on the block that runs in the loom with the others.
Heat wrap the fuel lines that run down the drivers side, my exhaust runs right next to these.
Put cruise control cable behind brake line heat shield.
Relocate ABS wires on both front wheels.
Relocate and extend O2 sensor wires, LTs require this.
Stuff I thought might be a problem but wasn,t sure:
Took off Brake line heat shield and clearanced it with a hammer and heat taped the inside to keep brakes lines cooler.
Heat wrapped brake lines coming out of shield cause I thought they were too close to header heat.
As you can see I spent alot of my header install time doing these prep type things and I think it makes for a trouble free install if you take the time to do them.
Good Luck.

How long do you think I could drive it around with just the LTs on there and not the Y-pipe and exhaust? Curious because I have to get the Y welded to the exhaust and dont have the cash to get it done. I know its only like 20 bucks, but my *** is BROKE!
You can drive around with open headers for awhile it won,t hurt but I bet you get tired of it real quick.
Just don,t hook up the O2s and it will run but I advise you only do this to get the car to the shop to put exhaust on it, not to go to the local quickie mart for donuts.
