a few questions about headers

I went by my dealership the other day and asked them what kind of emissions testing they do. they said they dont do a sniffer but do visual inspection. they said that if the cats are there, it doesnt matter if they are moved.

I am thinking about getting some long tube headers and a custom made y pipe w/ a cat shell welded on. do you think a muffler shop would do this for me? i kinda think they would bitch about the epa and stuff.

Also, if i get some lt's what parts will i need. i have in mind some ovc wires, felpro gaskets, and stage 8 locking header bolts.

How hard is the install? i have an impact wrench, jack stands, and many tools and i have done an install of my all of my mods below (minus the welding of my cutout.)

thanks a lot.

Where I live it is illegal for a State Inspector to render any emissions control device, such as a converter, inoperative. That does not mean they won't do it, but they're not supposed to. I'm sure you can find someone to do it though.

thats cool, i was wondering just how much of a hp restriction catalytic convertors are because i might just get them for the hell of it if it doesnt restrict too much. im sure that somebody could do that welding for me if it was necessary. would around 700 be a good enough budget for longtubes or will i need to save up about 800? thanks

If Car Craft or Hot Rod are right, it only hurts you by a couple of horsepower with a hi flow cat.
Yes a muffler shop can be fined like 5000 dollars if they get caught taking a cat off. If you want it done go out far in the sticks and billy bobs muffler shop will probably do it.
On the other hand if you pull the plates off and trailer the car to and from the shop and tell them its your race car and won,t be driven on the street that will cover the muffler shops a** and everyone should be happy.

A while back someone on this board dyno tested FLP long tube headers with cats vs. offroad pipes there was only a 5 hp difference. That's not a big deal if you ask me.
