few different questions about egr and milage issues

Ok what advantage is there to taking off the egr system? I know you cant really pass emissions without it , and what about the AIR pump, what teh hell does that do and if I took it off would I be able to pass emissions, sounds like its only on while warming the car up? Now for the milage question... since I put on the ram air my milage has dropped a few mpg, is there a certain angle or position you have to mount the MAF sensor its ported too but I thought that leaned it out and it was ported before the ram air went on?

Since you have a gutted cat, the AIR pump does nothing for you. EGR will help you pass emissions, unless you have a cam (certain ones) which in some intances you don't need your EGR to pass emissions. You need to get programming to lean your A/R ratio out.

Thanks for the info. Anyone else had strange problems with fuel economy? So on a stock engine taking off teh egr system would only be for less clutter?
