Feedback on Hypertech Power Programmer for 95 formula
I've been running Hypertech programming on my formula for awhile now. I'm new to the board and just wanted to share my results with you guys, maybe help someone out
The programming seemed to help overall power nicely...nothing huge but noticeable. It seemed to help throttle response more than anything tho. The car really leaps off the line now...much more snap than it had before the programmer. And it really firmed up the shifts nicely. The first 2 shifts grab rubber anytime you play with the throttle now in regular mode, and really hit hard in performance mode...gets alittle squirrely actually
(but I am getting belt squeal now at shifts). Plus the car runs alot cooler with the lower temp programming. The Hypertech instructions said to use only premium fuel with the power program..but I'm running mid-grade with no probs at 4500-5000ft in elevation. At first I was wondering if the hypertech was worth close to 300 bucks, but after driving the car for awhile I have to say it was. Plus it has alot of options on shift points, adjusting for diff gearing ect to play with....neat little gadget if you like to fiddle...would be excellent for tuning for the strip. I give it a thumbs up
The only other mods are a K&N drop-in filter and an aftermarket aluminum intake elbow.

a lot of people will say its a waist. i have used on on my 95 z28, i didnt notice any power gains, but its great for adjusting the little stuff you were talking about.... not worth 300 but 100 on ebay maybe ill consider it again.
Glad you like it. It is meant for a mostly unmodified car like yours. Anyone that has engine modifications won't find it very useful, as a custom tune is much better (and would probably be even better for you).
Good points guys...thats why I gave it 1 thumb up not 2
I'm happy with it, but like you said Shoe it says in the instructions its meant for a mostly stock car...they say you'll notice the best results that way. I was def on the fence about getting it...but plan on leaving the car alone for mileage and reliability, and figured it would be an interesting experiment. It seems like our cars are already in a pretty high state of tune so there's not alot more to be had with stock components. On bikes once you dump the cats/restrictive exhausts and add free-flowing filters and pc's with good mapping/timing, you really get a nice boost in performance. But with emmissions testing on cars unfortunately its not nearly that easy
I'm new to car tuning...it kinda feels like your hands are tied

You'll find alot do not like the hypertech, i have one on my 97Z 6sp., it came on the car when i bought it & has been in service for a good 5 yrs., i'm happy with it, its a good adj. tool for a stock/mild set-up, bumps the timing up & leans out the fuel curve for better throttle responce, i felt the car was so-so untill i installed some LT headers & ory, even now, the hypertech is still working good, the plugs are burning much cleaner (with the headers) & power went way up, i was a bit scepticle on keeping it on untill i talked to Ed Wright, one of the top tuners in the country, he really speaks highly of the hypertech programmer for a bolt-on LT1, he has tested them & said the timing is just about right & fuel curve is around 12.8 WOT, but once you start tearing into the engine & changing cam/heads, then the hypertech fades away & no longer is the best choice, but he has found a Comp. cam that he says still works very well with the hypertyech programmer, so if he says they are a nice piece, i'll keep mine untill it either goes bad or i tare into things more.
