Faulty Hydrolic lifter

Does anyone know what a faulty Hydrolic lifter sounds like, and what indications of it going bad, what happens when it freezes.
thanks

If the internal hydraulics froze, it would essentially become a solid lifter. Depending on where in the travel it froze, your rocker may end up too loose (noise) or too tight (possible miss felt).

I always wondered about the roller wearing out and locking up. Like Shoebox says if the internals freeze then there will be a noticable sound like a maladjusted RR/valve and perhaps a significant enough noise to warn the driver of impending calamity. But if the roller part freezes, what happens? I don't see many posts about bad HRs. For those who have HR lifters crap out, how did you find out about it?

If the roller locks up, you will have bigger problems. Your cam is going to take some abuse and metal is going to be dispersed into your oil. I can't say I have heard of this happening, though.

I guess you are not talking about it freezing in the bore. You would be having serious oiling problems if that were the case.

Shoebox, I'm just curious. I'm actually very glad to not hear about their failure. From the relative lack of failure reports they seem to be a durable component.
