Are you sure there is something really wrong? What is the situation? You know they don't come on until 226º, right? That will be more than halfway on the gauge (if accurate).

Yes, what I quoted is the stock fan programming. High speed does not come on until 235º.

Shoebox, I jsut got my LT1 running , that wrecked one im sure you remember all my stupid ?'s when putting it together lol ... At anyrate, if its sitting at idle, with just a few revs to 2K here and there, how long should it take for the fans to come on, It was like 70* out high humidity, and they never came on even though it ran for abouyt 20 minutes. The gauge went up to about the middle. I think the thermostat opened a little bit, After filling the rad before starting it, it ran then i opened it up, and it took about half a court ... It should be more then that though shouldnt it ? As of right now i have a hair over 3 gallons of coolant in it.Shouldnt it hold ALMOST 4 though ?

Ok mine for sure don't come on unless I use a manual switch to turn them on. My wiring for the switch does not mess up the original curcit path in the electrical wiring for the fans. What should I look for, and where do I look for it. I have a 97 TA. my fans won't come on automatically for sure (it has over heated over 260 once before and no fans , not to worry too much though because of the iron heads).

in the fuse box under the hood, you have relays, and there are 3 fan relays, i am having to replace mine too, but dont know which one it is. they are 8.99 from auto zone. I have a 97 trans am, and i can post the part number for you tomorrow if you want, both auto zones part number and the dealer part number if you preferr to get it from the dealer.

Capacity is 15.1 qt with A4 and 15.3 with M6. Most of the time, people don't get the system completely drained. It is not uncommon for the fans not to come on when idling, especially when the ambient air temp is not all that hot. The middle of the gauge is ~210º-220º.Check the coolant in the morning when the car is completely cool. It should be up to the top of the radiator.

It would be a good idea to have a scan tool to check what the temp sensor in the water pump is seeing. The gauge uses a sensor in the head.

Thanks Shoebox ... It was all drained though since the engine was out of it since like late 96 , I ran it for about 20 mins so the thermostat would open and fill the block , then when i shut it down, let it cool, i went to add coolant and it was only about 2 inches low ... At anyrate, i guess ill jsut check it everytime i have it running for a few days and add to it if it needs it ? Theres probly air pockets in the system or something ...

If you did not have the bleeder screws open when you initially filled it, there is probably still a little air in it. Just check it when cold for a few days (when it has been run in between) and you should get it topped off. Make sure the remove reservoir has the correct amount of coolant in it. That way if the system needs to pull any in when it cools down, it can do so.

I did open the bleeders when i initially filled it, but for some reason this thing wont take as much as its suppose to lol ... And I waited untill jsut anti was coming out of it, not air too ... Then i closed em up. Also i filled the overflow to the markings for cold on it too, I cant figure out why it wont take it al now that the car was run long enough for the Stat to open up , but ill jsut keep topping it off if i have too , no biggy

yes please give the part #'s for those relays. when coolant starts to "boil over" when manual fan switch hasn't been turned on, you know that somewhere in your electrical system to the fans that something is broken, or disconected. Yes I've bled the system properly. I pray that it is the relays, so the fix will be easy. I don't want to trace the wires all over.
