Fan Switch????

Well I was going to do the wiring for my fan switch, when I go to the site http://users.oco.net/xero/fanmod/ I get a DSN error.

So does anyone know where this writeup went? if its gone can someone give me a link to another one?
thanks

???

ok when the A/C is on and the fans are on my car loses power, but when its on Off its got alot more power, by putting in a manual fan switch and leaving it always on will you lose some power???

it might pull the alternator a slight bit (wont be noticeable). Its the a/c unit that pulls the ponies.

That would be Green Black Brown and silver or gold is for tolerance. 10% and 5% respectively. It may not even be marked for tolerance.

The 470 ohm resistor in the other link would be Yellow , Purple , Brown

How important is it for the LEDsc to have a resistor?

I do know that no resistor will burn the LED out.

and that what ever resistor I have works pretty well with 9v.

one last question, for the 500ohm resister is the color code

there are three color bands plus one tolerance color band in a small resistor. begining with the clossest to the edge of the resistor....

Green =Five
Black = Zero
Brown = One number Zero <this is the multiplier band

the first two bands are just numbers in this case Five and Zero then the third color band is a multiplier of ten. Brown color means one. in this case one number Zero. If it was a red color then yhou would add two number ceros or 50 plus 00 equals 5000 ohms. does it make sense?

Here is another example...Blue, Gray, Brown. Thats 680 ohms
Radio shack part number 271-1117, 1/2 watt resistor. That would work too... I am not sure wheater they selll the exact 500 ohm resistor but any resistor in the 500 ohm range will do. if your LEDs are of a lower voltage you may need a higher ohm resitor.

If you see a Gold color band in the resistor you are looking at the wrong side... begin at the other end....

gold = 5% tolerance.

Hope that helps.

Marvin

If you are OBD2, which 96's are. (i think.. shoot brain fart) You need to use the OBD2 schematic with the extra resistors or you WILL throw a improper fan operation code. Schematic was given to me by Shoebox I have done several OBD1's and 2's so if you need help shoot me an email.

What's a "cero"?

You can also use the web to make it easy.

Very important. too much voltage will burn up a LED.

You can figure out your resistance by using OHMs LAW.

Resistance = voltage (supply voltage minus the LEDs operating voltage) divided by intensity required.

if your LED works with 3 volts and 80 milliamperes (0.080)

then it looks like this.

Resistance = 9 volts divided by 0.080 = 112.5 ohms.

They are using a diff LED and requires a Diff resistor but you can do your own Math if you cant find the exact same LED or if you see a LED of the right size or color and you just hafta have it.
Hope that gives your more options

and that is a 4 color band resistor Gold, Brown, Pink, Yellow 1/2 watt 5%

I think you are looking at it backwards.... the Gold color is the last band.

so I will assume you see Yellow, pink, brown and then Gold

There is no pink in the color bands you have either Red or Orange. I doubt you are looking at Orange so I will Asume Red

so in this case Yellow, Red, Brown and then Gold

Yellow = 4
Red = 2
Brown = 1 Zero

420 ohms... with Gold as 5% tolerance.

Screw what resistor to use and go to Radio Shack and get 2 of these . They come in green and red or 2 of these . They only come in red, they are what I used on mine. I have used both and they are a piece of cake to use and come preassembled with resistors and diodes already built in and has the housing around it for easy mounting. Just drill a hole and slide it through just like the switch. End of story!
