False Coolant Sensor Light?

Hey guys,

I was driving yesterday and I noticed my coolant level light was on. So I stopped at a gas station and bought some coolant and put it into the resvoir. I put in a good amount. So then I left and the light was gone.

Later it came on again, then as I was driving it turned off again. It's been acting up and just staying on now. The temp is always within the first two marks on the temp scale...even the outside A/C fan blows not as hot air through the vents as it would if the engine compartment was really hot. It seemed to be running fine and the coolant level is fine. I didn't even have any smoke or antyhing coming out of the exhaust.

Anyone think this is just a faulty sensor?

Thanks in advance,
~Kevin

Sorry for the long post.

my low coolant light was coming on too even though my coolant was full, changed the sensor and the light went away for good.

As long as the coolant level is fine (and you said it was) then i'd have to say the sensor is faulty. The coolant has to be pretty low to trigger a low coolant light. I remember when i blew a headgasket and when my low coolant light would come on that i'd have to pour l like almost a 1/2 a gallon of coolant in maybe a little less, but a good amount anyways.

Agreed, it's probably just a bad sensor. There's been plenty of threads on here about them. Some have been able to remove and clean the sensor with success, but I haven't done it personally. Mine has recently started to do it, and since I can't replace it just yet I unplugged it to stop it from driving me nuts.

Shoebox's site has some info on it and instructions for removal, apparently it's pretty common. Mine just started doing it a couple weeks ago, and as with yours my temp range is fine and the fluid level is right on so obviously it's the sensor...
