F,Y LT1's ?
F,Y LT1's ?
I have a 1994 Z28 w/ 6 speed manual tranny. I wanna buy a crate LT1 for it, but have noticed code F, code Y and different year model LT1's with a slight variation in pricing. What is best code to get, and why is the 94 LT1 Y code the most expensive? Does it have more hp?
Re: F,Y LT1's ?
That makes sense, so would there be a problem putting a Y into my 1994 Z28? Is there enough of a difference in performance to warrant buying a LT1 that is not specifically for my Z28?
Nope no problem.
The corvette LT1 should be a four bolt main with a bigger cam.
So I would guess you would need a reprogramed computer chip.
But I would think it would be worth it.
Four bolt main is stronger than a two bolt.
Bigger cam little more HP.
Sounds good to me.
Just depends on you cash flow.
Hope I have been some help.
Chris.

Re: F,Y LT1's ?
yeah, that clarifies big time... cause I figure that if I am gonna spend $4k I might as well spend the extra $300 for the vette setup.. and with the exhaust upgrades and all.. I am gonna have to re-program either way...
Re: F,Y LT1's ?
Im pretty sure there is absolutely no difference in the Cam between the F-Body and Y-Body LT1. The differences are only in the 4 bolt main over the 2 bolt main. The increases HP figures you saw from Vette's was due to their lack of a completey restricted exhaust and slightly different air intake setup.
It still appears that it would be worth my while, for a little extra "low-end" insurance if nothing else... Plus, you never know where I may eventually want to go with the motor.
Re: F,Y LT1's ?
the cam specs were different. Not by much but they did differ between the fbodies and the vette. I have the gm spec page around here somewhere. However its not enough to throw anything but very slight differences on your stock tune. If i were you id save the 3 bucks, and buy a different cam shaft then stocker anyway. Also a PCM Tune. 2 bolt main LT1 has no shame. Ask around here on the board. If your thinking of making a huge monster out of the thing then go 4 bolt setup for only 300. But for 300 bucks difference you could get a com camps nice cc305 or cc306 or even a possible custom cam and tune and make a killer street/strip car.
Re: F,Y LT1's ?
for 4K you could buy a short block from here: http://www.golenengineservice.com/ I would buy a 383 short block.
Then I would send in my heads to LLoyd : http://www.eportworks.com/LT1LE2.htm
You will spend about the about same cash and a lot more hp at the end.

Re: F,Y LT1's ?
thanks for the info guys. I just found a 1995 Corvette motor (complete) with long tubes and all (even fuel rail covers) for $1000 about 45 minutes from my house!!!!!
I am gonna go pick it up Wednesday.... what should I do to it with the other 2k? I want a dependable/streetable fast car... keep in mind it is going into a 1994 Z28 6speed. picture attached
