F body Central in Baltimore anybody familiar with

Update: F-Body Central found a cracked timing cover.. and fixed it at their own cost... they did a lot of work at their own cost and I am very very appreciative... Nice bunch of guys... good mechanics... Remember F-Body in Baltimore for your F body needs!!

they put in my subframe connectors, my rear control arms... did the entire front of engine seals... optispark, plugs and wires... a lot of work which they had a heat wave to work in and when I came to get the car... boy the boys looked like they'd been working for a living! I remember the days when I was physically able to do that kind of work and just the smell of the shop and the gas still takes me back to the days I had great enjoyment from fixing a car so that it purred.

Now my car purrs... I think i got a bad shock in the rear... new shock I ordered from the internet... AGX KYB adjustable .. I think one is bad and the place I bought it from refuses to send me a replacement till I take it off, mail it back and they send it to KYB for testing .. in the meantime.. i'll be riding around on a car with only 3 shocks . yeah.. like that's going to happen... guess who lost my business on that deal .. lol

thanks
tony

I wonder if you have the same problem I had. I took it to one shop for the timing chain and they put nicks in the timing cover, around one of the seals, the the crank or water pump, I don't know which. I took it to another shop and it took two tries until they figured it out. I think every time you pry out the seals, you run the risk of nicking the aluminum.

I tell you, if you find a GOOD LT1 mechanic, treat him well 'cause they're a lot of butchers out there.

nick in cover

well I sure hope that is it because they are putting a new timing cover on there today and I hope and pray that this fixes the leak because I am so sick and tired of this ongoing 3 week long nightmare.

If they fix this leak I am changing my post to "F-Body fixes World Record stubborn oil leak!" just to make the owner happy.

But yes , that does sound right about putting nicks in the timing cover because it leaks much worse now than it did when I gave it to them to fix the first time..

They did a good job on the rest of the car, as I have said, the rear control arms, the subframe connectors... just this oil leak is driving up everybody's blood pressure and its necessary that all remain calm and calmly fix this leak, put the correct coolant in and finish this insanity.

thanks for your post because it helped my understand how a small leak could have become a large leak.

The WP drive seal is a hassle to get installed right, BUT not impossible. One thing I would wonder about in the case of stuborn leaks is the outside chance of crankcase pressure buildup. Not saying that is the problem but if this continues I woul look into it.

One of many stories from that shop, my friend. I haven't been there for years so I'm not sure what their skill level is, but these stories are all too common. From what I understand they "specialize" more in LSx combos so I'm not sure how familiar their "techs" are with a LTx.
My best advice is to do it yourself. It's not that difficult. Search this site there should be a writeup. Try here:
