Exposed helicoil tips after ported heads, did you take them off?

When I sent my LE2 heads to a local race shop to have them "once overed" after my bent valve situation, he told me that I should really break the tips off the end of the helicoil for the rocker studs. They're exposed and of course with the longer comp (arp) rocker studs they are bent out some.

Has anyone ever done this? They don't seem like they're going anywhere, but I could see how it would be a problem if by chance they did overtime. Only seems to be an issue on the intake side studs...

You can break them off with a screw driver if you want, it's not going to hurt anything.

The dude didnt put a new valve job in the heads hopefully.

Negative, just checked all the valves to make sure they were sealing and cleaned them for me. Then just replaced the one bent valve with a new Ferrara replacement (same series)

I'm gonna leave this crap alone, those helicoil tips are hard as hell and it's starting to actually pull down on the helicoil strips the more I try to break them off.

Marshall, the rocker stud threads are helicoils from the factory.

Yah, nothing like that at all...

BUT now I think the helicoil on that rocker stud is ****ed up. I can't for the life of me get the tab I started to mess with to come off and now the final loop of thread at the bottom of the heli coil is starting to go into the intake port.

Is it possible to remove the helicoil and replace it with no drilling?

GOD WHY DO I LISTEN TO PEOPLE SOMETIMES

Yeah but you dont want to break that tab off if you want to get it out.

Are there still threads at the top of the hole?

Yeah thats at least one thread down, maybe take it back to the machinest that told you to do it and see if he will replace it.

Gotcha. I'd like to avoid taking it to him or anyone at this point. Let me see if I can find something to remove it with locally, and if I can even find the right helicoil.
