Expensive Spark Plug Wires, worth it?

I usually just get autozones "duaralast" wires when replacing them for like $27 but I have seen taylor ones etc.. going for near $50. Are they really worth it for a bolt on car?

I only bought them so could stop burning my stock ones in the stock routing location. So my answer is yes and no.

I went threw 3 sets of $27 before I paid $60 or whatever.

Ive never had that problem w/ you reuse the stock routing areas you shouldnt be burning up wires? Then again I do have stock manifolds, are longtubes going to emmit more heat and burn up my wires?

If you're burning wires look into some protective sleeves for your wires. Avail. through any racing supply store, jegs, summit, etc.

As for the wires...Duralast sucks my Azz! Weren't worth wiping with for my IROC. I don't know about the LT1 wires, but if the resistance is anything like my IROC wires were it's just killing power, and with the higher CR on LT1s high resistance is bad. You need more current (amps) for higher CR engines.

I ohmed the wires when I replaced them. Duralast had 1k + ohms of resistance. MSD superconductors were around 40 ohms. That's good enough for me!

Its not an issue of the long tubes giving off more heat and frying wires, it is more of an issue of the long tubes interfering with the stock wiring in some places and frying the wires that way. If you choose to stick with the stock wiring along with long tubes, then wrap the wires in fire sleeves and try to secure them away from the headers with cable ties.

As for ar the performance wires worth it; to most, yes. But I do suggest adding boots as suggested to prevent melting of the ends on the headers or manifolds.

Also as stated before the resistance of the wires is crutial to transfering the energy from the coil to the plug, the higher the resistance the less energy in the spark at the plug.
