Exhausted With Picking an Exhaust/Headers

I just picked up a 1995 z28 and my busted catalytic converter started shooting stuff at cars behind me.

So its time for a set-up. I want everything from headers to tips.

I saw Edelbrock Headers that come with a Y Pipe in a package. Are these Edelbrocks any good? If not what is another header pick? I'm also unsure weather to go stainless steel or not. Its a lot more money. Also whats a good cat-back system.

God bless the person who answers me with some good advice.

Re: Exhausted With Picking an Exhaust/Headers

I would recommend the stainless headers if you can swing the $$, take a look at Kooks. If you want something a bit less, try some jet hot coated pacesetter headers. I have installed a set and really like them better (as far as clearance) than my Jet-hots. Get a custom y-pipe made (I wasn't real happy with the fit of my Hooker y-pipe). As far as cat-backs, I will buying a GMMG for my car. I have heard a LT car with GMMG and it sounded nice .

Good luck with your choice, there are many different combinations out there and it really depends on your taste (and we know everybodys taste are different).

Re: Exhausted With Picking an Exhaust/Headers

It seems like most people on here recommend long tube headers such as jet hots, hookers, and pacesetter. Personally I just bought a set of hooker supercomps shorties that are 1 5/8" tubes and ceramic coated. That is the one thing that you do want is to get the ceramic coated ones. As far as catback systems, I LOVE my slp loudmouth. Some people say they drone on auto cars, but I haven't experienced that, and personally I don't care. It sounds awesome when your foot is down and always puts a smile on my face . Mainly try to find some sound clips or cars around in your area that have a catback and hear what they sound like. A lot of cat backs are around $400 so find one you like.

Sorry for hijacking.... Have you had them installed (I just did it, it's a royal pain)??? What about plug #7???

Edelbrocks are fine shorties, easy to put/remove, good plugs access. Any shorties are about the same. If you can afford it get coated ones.

i have some hooker shorties with the corsa exhaust and i love the way it sounds. If you want loud and all. Now when i drive my truck with flowmasters dumped after the axel it sounds like a stock truck to me.

As I have said in many other posts. Don't waste the time of getting shorties and single exhausts. Why do your exhuast twice? Just go ahead and get the longtube headers, x-pipe, and bullets. I guarantee longtubes will get you at least 20 more hp than shorties.

If you are looking for a whole ehxaust system, I would strongly recommend Pacesetter long tubes and y-pipe with a Hooker catback. I have yet to meet someone who doesn't like the sound. Do some research and you'll see. It is a moderate but powerful sound at idle and normal driving and peaks at a nice relatively loud volume at WOT. Not raspy, NO drone.

I recommend the Pacesetters because they are a great header at one of the best prices and install relatively easy (LT headers). I strongly recommend the coating too, even if just to maintain the appearance and avoid rust but it also protects the underhood components from head and squeezes out a little more power. The Hooker catback is also one of the least expensive catbacks so not only is this one of the best header/exhaust combos, but one of the least expensive too.

I have only heard the car from the outside so I couldn't tell you what it sounds like inside. I'll try to snag a ride in it sometime.
