Re: Which exhaust would you run (On HC car)? Poll.

I disagree with just about everyone here.

I think you're CRAZY if you don't cut the Flowmaster out of your piping and install a new Aerochamber.

I had an Aerochamber on my Vortech T-trim 383 combo. When I removed the whole cat-back from the y-pipe, I gained only 5 rwhp on a 550 rwhp combination. Thunder Racing has had similar experiences with high hp NA applications. 480 rwhp NA through a 3.5" Aerochamber and no discernable gain when the muffler is removed.

How is a $200 e-cutout more cost effective than a $60 muffler???

I hate when people talk about how great the bang/buck is on an e-cutout. A good muffler is almost always way less money!

As far as Spintech goes, you might as well keep your Flowmaster. . .

Hmm ... Them Aerochambers must be pretty decent ...

Anyone have a link to where they had the CFM's of a buncha different mufflers?

I wanna see what some of the ones I like flow like compared to an Aerochamber.

I think mine sounds way better than an aerochamber does, but I would rather have function over sound anyways ... I would have a harder time I think getting it stickered with a E-Cutout than I would with an Aerochamber, or even true duals ...

Wonder, on a HC car, how big a gain there would be going true duals over an Aerochamber ... I know it would peak better, but most of my driving will be down low anyways ...

Anyone ever do a true dual vs. good catback, back to back dyno ?

I'm betting <5 rwhp based on my results with a 3" Aerochamber versus no exhaust at all.

I wonder if swapping my flowmaster muffler for a hooker aerochamber would be worth it.

I wish someone on here had some dyno results to show the difference between flowmaster and something like a aerochamber, and then the differnece between a "good" cat back like a aerochamber and true duals, or a Ecutout.

Owell.

I just dont want to choke the motor up with the new set up I build this winter.

I had a 3" FlowSmasher on my 310 rwhp old 3rd Gen. It picked up 35 rwhp when I dropped the muffler. When I installed an old SLP muffler (straight-through), it picked up another 5 rwhp.

When I dropped my 3" Aerochamber cat-back from my 550 rwhp S/C 4th Gen, it picked up only 5 rwhp.

You do the math.

True duals with spiral flows out the back under the axle. I don't know why everyone is scared to go under the axle, you have the exact same ground clearance as you would if you dumped them.

Re: Which exhaust would you run (On HC car)? Poll.

Just to add something else, back when I had a hooker catback, in the same night, same conditions, I ran 2 passes, similar 60's, and trapped 114.3x both times, then I unbolted the hooker muffler and trapped 115.1x the next 2 passes. I never had a chance to dyno the car with it on/off though. And all my runs were within 1 tenth that night, so the car was running consistent as hell.

Looks like my old flowmaster exhaust, except it was 3" to 4".

Re: Which exhaust would you run (On HC car)? Poll.

I have to also say that cut outs just make the car loud... not fast. I like the SLP 2otl. It's not shrill or harsh, and it won't get you pulled over driving home from the bar. I dyno'd the car with the 2otl and then dropping the y- pipe (open hooker lt's), and the car lost 3 rwhp with no exhaust. Loud cars are annoying. If there is one thing I hate, it is a car soooo loud that your ears are bleeding but the car only runs 12.3. Or even worse a mid 70's f-body that runs 15's tuned up (open hedder of course for the MOST POWER EVER!!!), and I can't even tell my car is running when I am parked next to a guy like that. But hey, it's LOUD....so it must be superfast!

Here is what my car sounds like
