Exhaust tones AFTER LT's and/or Cam..

I have a Borla catback now which I think sounds great, but after hearing a couple of cars after a cam and header install, the borla doesn't sound quite as good. I have Hooker LT's sitting next to my car, and a camshaft yet to be picked out. Madwolf's car with the Magnaflow sounds perfect, anyone else have this experience after doing some heavier mods?

Well, just do the install first and see what you think. With all the badmouth that flows get, even the ricers think my car sounds badass after the longtubes.

I think it'll sound absolutely killer. I'm pleased with the sound of mine, but then again the sound is always so subjective.

Try it, if you dislike it, sell the Borla and try another cat-back.

The Borla without a plate in will be really raspy, KWKSLVR on here is running MAC midlenghts or shorties and the Borla Ypipe and Catback and it sounds pretty good. If you would like I could post a video thats a little lentghy, but will give you an idea of what it will sound like.

I have a Blown 383 with a cc305 and LT + 3in Ypipe with dual cats + Borla With DMH E-cutout.

That is what I have and I really like this set up. You can click on my sig for the video/sound demo between open and closed. There is also a Group Purchase going on for the DMH E-cutout in the Paying Vendors section of this Forum.

Here is the write up (with pics) I did on the install and review of the E-cutout on my Borla:

I had a borla catback for awhile. when i bought my lt headers i started reading people's thoughts and alot of people complained the borla started to sound like crap (not my words) so i sold it. Theirs a guy on these boards bad95killer he has a borla with headers and it sounds pretty damn intimidating. He has a video you can watch.

My exhaust actually got quieter after my LT install...but that all changed after the Dual cut-out's were installed.

As mentioned above, exhaust is extremely subjective. Every setup is slightly different though. I wouldn't be very surprised if you weren't happy with it - ssshrrrrrrrreeeeEEEEK! The open borla's i've heard on modified cars were fairly obnoxious IMHO.

I really love the sound of LT's w/o cats and w/ corsa cat-back! it sounds wicked up top like around 4 grand, just screams. And sounds really good for just cruisin' around. Not a bad set-up i have to say

The more power my car makes the quieter and smoother the exhaust note has become on my Borla. The most obnoxious time was when I had a cam and stock manifolds that dumped directly in a large Y-pipe and Borla (it held me over until I could get headers ).

I've got a video of my car and another LT1 with longtubes and Corsa opening them up a little bit from a roll. I can't really tell all that much difference except his sounds "rougher" Maybe someone can host it, otherwise I can email it to you? It's about 3.5MB in size.

I really haven't heard many exhausts on an LT1 that sounded "bad" and they all provide about the same power potential so I guess I can't figure out why everyone frets over it. I'll be welding up my dual exhaust, x-pipe, tips to the back soon and I'll bet it sounds even higher pitched yet, but it'll make more power so I don't care Hopefully I can keep it more quiet as well.

im the process of changing my exhaust system now because after the cam/heads, i just didnt like the sound.
i had: rksport headers/orp/closed borla

new exhaust system:
jet hot lt/3" x pipe/bullets

im hoping that will make it sound better.
