exhaust suggestions.

hey guys. im new here because i just got a 1994 Camaro Z28. The stock exhaust sounds alright, but im upgrading to something new. i think ive narrowed it down to the Magnaflow cat-back or the Flowmaster system. I want one thats gonna be pretty loud and sound good. any suggestions? thanks.

Re: exhaust suggestions.

Stay away from flowmaster....most people agree it doesn't flow very well. As far as the sound.....Its ok. If you want a high quality exhaust system I would suggest going with GMMG, Corsa or Borla. They are a little pricey but they are all stainless steel and will last a lifetime. Borla is really nothing more than an overpriced cutout but it will last forever. They all sound really good (I'm partial to my setup, cutout all the way ) But I like the tips of either Borla or Corsa. Its all up to what you want. You really can't go wrong with any of the above. If you are looking for good, cheap exhaust, I'd pick Magnaflow or Spintech over Flowmaster anyday. Just my .02

Re: exhaust suggestions.

I have the Magnaflow exhaust system and the quality and sound is nice, but a little too tame for my liking. As stated above, just running an open cutout with stock manifolds sounds good. Also, some of the low budget catbacks like Edelbrock and Hooker have a really aggresive sound to them and both of these brands can be had for under three hundred bucks.

Flowmaster sounded fine for me. It's all about personal preference.

Re: exhaust suggestions.

slp loudmouth wakes up neighbors in the morning

flowmasters will resonant in the car giving you a headache on long drives

magnaflows sound really good once carboned up, similar to old "turbo" style mufflers, get reasonably loud after 500 miles of driving.

i love the sound of borlas, but don't love the price.

Re: exhaust suggestions.

I had a Magnaflow on my 94T/A. Sounds little louder then stock with the cat. But once the cat was gutted the thing sounded sweet. If you want something loud you can with Magnaflow. Also magnaflow is stainless steel and it took my abuse when I use to drive the car during winter with snow and salt in the road. Also the tips on the Magnaflow are 3.5inch chrome, they look sweet sticking out in the back. Like everybody said stay away from Flowmaster. Had a friend with 95 camaro with flowmaster, but after hearing my exhaust he got a magnaflow. Like everybody said it's up to you, but if you want something loud and sounds good then Magnaflow is a good choice.
I got mine off here
http://www.proficientperformance.com...&Store_Code=PP

Free shipping so couldn't really complain and I got the exhaust with in 4 days of ordering it.

Email all sellers of the Magnaflow on eBay, and ask what their cheapest price is including shipping for the system you need, without any "extras" thrown in (like a "free" catalytic converter). I did this and got my Magnaflow shipped to my door for less than $300. Others have done the same with similar results.

Re: exhaust suggestions.

I had b and b on my 97 ta and moved it over to my 99 ta and it sound great.
Sounded maybe slightly better on the lt1 though.
I got magnaflow as it was stainless for the money and is pretty cheap for purchase price .I did find I think a lot of interior resonance with it that seems annoying at some highway speeds. I added a flo pro twister race bullet and it helped some but still have some of the resonance. I bought some pilot resonator tips and am going to insert those in the magnaflow tailpipes to see if that does the trick. The magnaflow is only annoying at certain highway speeds and is find around town. Also if go a bit faster on the highway the droning goes away.My car is a vert so you might not notice any resonance with it on a non vert car. Buddies have them on their ls1s and like them.
Also disagree a bit on the flowmaster sounding crappy.I think it sounds fine have two buddies with it on their lt1s. I am not sure how good flowing it is hear different things but a cutout can fix that up pretty quick.
I just wish could find a quality cutout that wouldn't leak when closed and rattle. Had a dmh and qtp both leaked when closed. going to try some different design but much more pricey one maybe soon.

Electric cutout is another option..keep it stock quiet closed for trips and
loud open or partly open whatever you want it to sound like.

Re: exhaust suggestions.

i've got a 00 silverado ext cab w/ the 5.3, the magnaflow does get a little drone to it at certain rpms / loads like 80ta stated, almost so bad you have to stop the conversation until you pass it, but w/ windows down it never does, just thought it was becuase i had a larger interior volume that picked up the resonance. had a true 2 chamber flowmaster on a 97 s10 ext cab 4.3 w/ edelbrock shorties and a catco hi flo cat, i couldn't stand the resonance in the truck, put a db meter in there it was hitting around 110db, just stupid.
