Exhaust part # question
Exhaust part # question
Looking for a 3" mandrel bent intermediate and over-axle pipe for a 1996 camaro Z28 M6 to connect Y pipe to muffler.
i did a search, and the general feel was to call jegs/summit to get part numbers, as it's not in the catalog. Well, i called both places and they're telling me that they only have headers and y pipe, and entire cat back systems.
I went to dynomax and looked up the part numbers in the catalog, and they've got me confused... Under 1993-1997 5.7l, they offer two part numbers for the intermediate pipe, 45593, and 42273. However, there is a note after the second part # that states for 1993-1995 only.
Does this apply to the entire intermediate setup, or just the second part number?
if so, is the first part number the entire y-pipe to muffler deal, or just the y pipe to axle? Jegs and summit couldn't give me a clear answer...

Thank you in advance for any advice, these are the last pieces to replace my exhaust.
And the local exhaust shop can't do it... already checked 3 of 'em. Worthless i tell ya...

Re: Exhaust part # question
In 1996 and 1997 the intermediate pipe was shorter because of the change to a dual-cat Y-pipe. The 1993-1995 intermediate pipe was longer and has an S-bend in it that connects to the single catalyst under the passenger-side floor board.
The pipe you need will depend on what y-pipe you have installed on your car. If you have the stock Y-pipe, you'll need the shorter intermediate pipe. If you have some headers/y-pipe for a '93-'95 car, then you need the longer pipe with the S-bend.
Edit - I just saw your signature and you have the ASM headers. You need the longer pipe unless you have the S-bend pipe from ASM.

Re: Exhaust part # question
Thanks for the info so far.
I ended up getting the header/dual cat Y pipe setup from thunder racing
http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...&vid=4&pcid=52
all the way at the bottom, with the accessory pack for 1996-1997 cars.
I'm assuming i'll need the shorter pipe from your info.
So the firs part number on dynomax's site would be from the Y pipe back to the muffler, including the axle bend?
Thanks in advance again

Re: Exhaust part # question
Looking at the catalog, it's difficult to tell what they're doing. It looks like they've cut the intermediate pipe in two pieces with a junction just after it starts to kick up over the axle (for ease in assembly). In that case, you'll still need both pieces and you'll have to cut the front piece to the proper length to fit.
