Exhaust cut out question

hey guys. i just bought a 93 auto z28. i bought the car with lingenfelter intake and hooker cat-back and a y-pipe. i was watchin Trucks tv the other day and Stacy David had an exhaust cut out. i have seen them before but dont know much about them. my question is....if i put one on my car (with bone stock motor) will i yield any power gains?

Re: Exhaust cut out question

Actually yes, Cutouts are good to have. When its closed all the exhaust is going out the back, when its open you will prob run headers > y-pipe -- OUT You will feel a gain in power. But its also wayy to loud for daily driving. They also have electric ones that you can power to open and close from a switch inside the car

good luck

PS. best place to mount it on ur car is right under the floor under the right rear seat, there is a nice spot for it.

I've got my electric cutout behind my cats (which are intact) and can honestly say that it's not too loud. I have it open most of the time. Cruising at a steady speed @ low revs I can't even tell if it's open or not. Stomp on it, though, and there's no guesswork!

That's where I put mine. I added a short downturn to the cutout, to make sure the hot exhaust was directed away from the floorpan.

As for horsepower... I really don't think it makes much difference, but it sure as hell sounds faster!!!

Yes you should... either way, they're just a lot of fun to have - dont pay more than $50 for welding though....call around -- where are you from? If around the chicago area, I can give you names of REALLY good shops - one I went to will only charge $25 flat for the install - regardless how long it takes them. HOWEVER, try to have a cutout before because I had to buy 2 of them, as they could only sell in pairs there....I don't know how many other shops are like that though... Actually I still have a brand new flowtech, manual cutout if interested...
