Exhaust Cut Out Brand

I was wondering if the brand of the exhaust cutout made a difference. I noticed on thunderracing that the Flow Tech is $34.95, and the QTP is $45.00. Does it really make a differerence, or should I just go with the cheaper Flow Tech?

well the QTP won't rust, i didn't see it when i ordered my cutout, otherwise i'd go with that, but my flowtech serves it's purpose well.

Yeah I guess I saw the summit ones too last night. So one doesn't seem to be inferior or superior to another? Oh, and on a stock exhaust I will need the 3" cutout right? Thanks for the replys!

Re: Exhaust Cut Out Brand

I can't compare to the other cut outs on the market but i've had 2 summit cut outs, one on my current trans am and one on a previous car. They both do what their supposed to do . While inspecting them after they come out of the box, the build quality wasn't impressive but it dosn't seem to effect anything. The actual cut in the pipe is rough, the welds weren't very attractive and the flange wasn't completely straight with the pipe, but that didn't effect sealing. If you plan on using an electric cut out you might have to replace the bolts on the summit one like i had to, they were too short.

Yeah, you will need a 3" cutout, they will just have to build up the welds a little bit. You will like the sound of the cutout on an otherwise stock exhaust, I did, until I finally upgraded the whole exhaust system.

What do you mean by "until I finally upgraded the whole exhaust system?" Do you not like the sound of the cutout anymore after the LT headers? Too loud or raspy sounding?

Just curious because I absolutely love the sound of the open DMH E-cutout I have on my '95 Z28 (car also has Mac mid-length headers & 3" Random Tech highflow cat BTW).

Re: Exhaust Cut Out Brand

I think he means he prefers the sound of the exhaust over it now.
