Exhaust & Cat. convertor question

Anyone know what a car with all stock exhaust and a gutted convertor sounds like. I just bought a 93 z for a daily driver and the exhaust is too loud. Exhaust is all stock and the convertor is in place. I had a 95 z with full MAC headers and ypipe-no cat and flowmaster cat back-it wasnt this loud. I hate to start replacing parts not knowing.

I took the cats out on my Z28 and it was not loud at all. You could barely hear the difference. Then I put the Flowmaster 80 series muffler on it and now it sounds great.

well if its louder than your other car with headers and flowmaster, than I'd say their is a leak somewhere or the muffler is shot. When I threw my true duals and longtubes on, I expected my car to be majorly loud, but in fact was quieter, I knew there was a small hole in the muffler, but it must have been all rotted out on the inside. This maybe the case with yours, the type of muffler always dictates the sound and loudness, maybe its time for a whole new catback
