Exhaust band clamps
Exhaust band clamps
I am fixing to install pacesetter LT and OYP and was wondering which band clamps to use and how many and what do i use for the y pipe 3" to the stock diameter exhaust? Thanks in advance
Re: Exhaust band clamps
I used a 3" stainless band clamp from thunder for the y pipe to i-pipe (rest of exhaust). It was around $10
I used the regular 3" exhaust clamps on the rest of the connections.

Re: Exhaust band clamps
I am looking on the summit racing web site and i see all of the dynomax clamps but i am not 100% sure which ones i need (lap-joint but-joint) any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Re: Exhaust band clamps
I am installing pacesetter LT's with their ORY pipe. You need 3 of those dynomax "Lap-joint" clamps. 2 will bolt your header collector to the Y-pipe and one connects the 2 pieces of the y-pipe together. Now the "butt-joint" clamp is for any spot that you will need to connect two pipes that are they same size and wont "slip" over eachother. I bought 3 of those also to use for my SLP Loudmouth where they just gave me regualar clamps. I just got mine from summit...the part #'s are...
3" "Butt-Joint" Clamp - WLK-33278 $8.50
3" "Lap-Joint" Clamp - WLK-33272 $8.50
Hope that helps, if you guys need pics I can try to take some of my system off the car before I put it on. But I am having major problems with a AC lline that is touching the damn header #2 primary
prob going to heat it and bend that sucker out of the way hahaha

Re: Exhaust band clamps
Thanks for all of the replies but i still don’t understand what clamp to use to connect the pace setter oyp to the stock exhaust. Maybe i am misunderstanding but i thought the oyp is 3" and the stock exhaust is 2.75" can i just use a 3" slip joint exhaust clamp there as well? Thanks and sorry for the dumb questions
Re: Exhaust band clamps
sorry to say, but the connection will never be good between a 2.75" pipe and a 3" pipe.
i had the same problem when i installed my pacesetter headers & y-pipe, and the best solution i could come up with was getting a short 3" extension pipe, putting it on the y-pipe, and then clamping it over the 2.75" exhaust pipe with multiple exhaust clamps.
even with the maximum crimp you can achieve with the exhaust clamps, there is still a small gap between then y-pipe and the exhaust pipe. a band clamp will not work at all in this situation.
i had the idea to torch my extension pipe to soften it up and then crimp it down, but when i got the car up on ramps and saw how little room was under there i gave up.
summit and jegs dont really have any parts that could work as the best thing i saw that they have is a reducer that goes from 3" to 2.5", some kind of cone shaped job. i never tried it, after spending almost 100 dollars doing my exhaust the "cheap way" i decided to just deal with the leaks for now and save up for an exhaust shop.
i'd suggest either taking it to an exhaust shop and seeing what they want to weld it up, or buying a new catback.
or just get duals!
