excessive valve train noise w/ h&c

A little help would be appreciated. I just installed 2 of Lloyd's LE2 setups and I'm getting excessive rocker clap from mine. The other turned out fine. I installed a new set of comp's 850 lifters, hardened manley pushrods along with their 1305 roller rockers. I adjusted the rockers to the instructions specs (0 lash w/ 1/2 turn preload) and they were very noisey. I added an additional 1/2 turn and they were much better but then I had 1 lifter bleed down on me when the motor got hot. I called comp and they sent me out a new set of 850's . I just changed them and I was wondering if anyone has had this problem before and what their adjustment specs/ procedures were?

Any help would be appreciated. The frusterating part is I never had a problem with my stock lifters bleeding down or not pumping up fully. Is this common with the spring pressure on the LE2 heads? I'm to the point where I was just going to adjust by sound with the car running just to quiet them down.

Did you check for the correct length pushrods?

Just in case you didn't

I am positive they are correct. They are all the recommended parts from Lloyd. I believe they are 7.125. the wierd part is I have 60 lb of oil pressure cold and maintains 45 -50 when it's hot. So it's not like oil pressure is an issue. I am using 20w-50 royal purple.

IMHO, whenever you stray from the completely stock setup, the valve train geometry needs to be checked. The first thing I noticed when I installed my CC 850's, was that the depth of the PR cup was different from stock. That was enough right there to alert me to the fact that the stock PR length probably wasn't going to work. I have Lloyd's LE1 setup, 1.6 Pro Mags, 26918 springs and I ended up with CC High Tech PR's at 7.050".

But even if your PR's were not exactly right, I'm not sure how that would make the valve train noisey. I set mine, with the engine running, at 1/4 turn past zero lash.

My next move is back them off and reset them with the engine running. All of the part #'s I used were recommended by Lloyd who sells these setups, so I doubt I have the wrong length pushrods.

This just came to mind: do you think that not degreeing the cam has something to do with it? Just a thought, and I thought I would throw it out on the table.

No not at all. I think resetting them while the motor is running will do the trick. This way it will allow the lifters to pump up fully before they get reset.

I have an Advanced Induction setup with 850 lifters, 7.150 pushrods, and comp pro mags. I am runnin beehive 918 springs. Mine are noisey as all hell. I can't figure them out. I have set it at 1/4 turn past zero lash, and now im at 1/8 turn to squeeze some more power out of her. But, I set mine running. That is the best trick I have found. I just can't seem to get them to quiet up. I am begining to think that is just normal. I have a 383, pushin 422rwhp at the last dyno, if that matters. Stock heads. I checked my pushrod length to know mine are right. But, I would love to know how to quiet them up without seting the lash at 1 turn past zero lash. LOL.
