ex-612 springs...
ex-612 springs...
I am very close to getting rid of these things. I bought the ex-components 612 valvesprings years ago from cmotorsports who now no longer carries them. Does anyone have an actual lift max for these? The heads are going to the machine shop to get THEM to check the installed height so I want a real number not .600" like I was told. I am about to just get the bee hives, but if I could run a cam w/ about .550 lift with these springs I will... IF it is safe.
thanks,
thanks,

ya, I meant that sorry if I said it wrong. I am getting the install height checked by the machine shop to make sure they are exact, but I need a cam w/ less than .540" lift for those springs though, is that correct? or what is a clearance # to use as safety from the coil bind? .06 I have heard as of late... years ago I heard .02" clearance.

Re: ex-612 springs...
I was looking at eportworks.com (lloyd elliot's website) and saw that he re-uses the retainers and locks from the CM 612s for the beehive springs. I am guessing that the retainers and locks are re-useable then if I use the beehives?
Re: ex-612 springs...
Actually, I think you mis-read something on Lloyds site. To my understanding, you can re-use the stock LT1 (or LT4) retainers and locks with the 612 springs. But not the beehives. The beehive spring are alot smaller at the top than the stock ones and the 612 (which I believe are the same O.D. as stock)

Re: ex-612 springs...
well, I wont go as far to say that, BUT I will say that they broke in the past in MY motor. bent a valve and cost me a motor (eventually, 1-2 yrs later). 1 of my springs literally shattered into 3 pieces over 2 years ago. I ran the springs after they replaced it for free since then without any problems (the wrist pin I think was knocked loose 2 years ago when initial valve slap happened) and it finally finished rattling loose when my motor blew (9 MONTHS AGO)

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there's some people that swear by them. But, IMO there was enough bad reports to turn me away from them in the past.

Re: ex-612 springs...
I was talking about the CM612s... and not sure on the install height, but screw those springs. I have done a few searches but only cmoe up w/ my own posts about them in the past. Well, beehive time! and LE1 head time! and mean cam time!

That thread is a classic, and if you look at the last poster, it's our Good Friend
James Maldonado CEO of elitesparkjunk.com complaining about bad Customer service.. lol the irony.
