Specs are 218 224 duration at .050" and .495 .503 lift. i see you know alot about the lt1 motor and was wondering how much hp can i get out this cam??? i would like to get as much as a i can. I have been told i could get the heads and intake ported and that would help alot...i have a spare set of head and a intake too..what would yall put in it and please be specific on parts i dont know much about rebuilding a motor but my grandfathers mech does..... i figured yall could help me on a setup for my car. also the cars a automatic so i would also like to get the trans redone to to handle the horses and a stall any ideas? Please help me out on a setup and be specific if you can thanks and i think your site is awesome i get lots of info off of it so i greatly appreciate it thanks....hope to hear some info soon....brandon

Wow, I'm in the exact same boat...
94Z... 195,000 miles... and A4
Uncanny!
I'm actually just going to save and go ***** out for a Golen 383 LT1 and a stall(probably 3200) w/ a transcooler of course, and I'll replace whatever breaks when it goes.

I would have my stock internals inspected and re-use as much as I could. You're really not going to need anything special, that's a fairly mild cam that you have. The stock crank is fine, stock reconditioned rods will be fine. You could splurge on some forged pistons like some Mahle's if you wanted to, or get some cast replacement pistons like you'll find in the Summit catalog. Use some good bearings, I have Clevitte "H" series in my motor, but those might be overkill for what you're doing, I'm sure someone will chime in. I would definitely get the block decked about .020" and use the Fel Pro 1074 headgasket to bring the compression up a little.
Definitely get the heads ported-any increase in flow will only help you. I'm not sure at the power level you'll be at if the intake will really need to be ported.

The "H" series bearings is what ya need and for the cam brgs too.
I have a shop cam that is very close to that on a 112 ICL+4* and they will put down 380-390HP if it is "0" decked,flattops,4CC reliefs and the head's have 2.0 I valves, and ported(260CFM) with 1.6 RR's with a .039 gasket with long tubes and a custom dyno tune.Idles real nice too.

I would reuse the stock crank if ya can, but I would ditch the stock rods. For the price of Reconditioning the stock rods, and putting in good rod bolts you could get some Eagle I beams that are stronger and ready to run. If you are doing that you could also look into a longer rod like a 6", the big advantage of this to me is that the pistons are quite a bit lighter for a a 6" rod...this will take a good portion of stress off the crank, which should lead to increased crank life. I was always taught to buy the best pistons you can afford, so I would get some lightweight forged pistons if your budget permits. SRP, Mahle, and Probe seem to offer quite a few options that may fot the bill. Def. look into getting those spair heads ported, there are some board sponsers here that offer very good packages that would work well with your setup. Top the valvetrain with some Comp Cams Pro magnum 1.6 RR's, and Beehive springs.

As far as the stock rods vs. Eagle I-beams, since the price is close, I would run whatever is lighter. With the mods in question for the rebuild you wouldn't be pushing the limits of either one power-wise.
I over-built my motor because I plan on spraying it down the line, so I wanted it ready for whatever I decide to throw at it. However, I've been getting the itch lately to put some nice heads and a moderate cam on top of a reworked bottom end with some nice light pistons and just call it a day.
Re: Everybody Help Me Out Lt1 Motor Rebuild Need Some Info....
I just rebuilt a low mile motor with stock pistons, stock crank, and stock rods. It was very cost effective and makes great power. I would have gone a different route if I had planned on spraying it.
Re: Everybody Help Me Out Lt1 Motor Rebuild Need Some Info....
Yeah he doesn't need anything extreme. Polish the stock crank, I beams because they are stronger...and about the same price. There is still a weight reduction with a 6" I beam, and lightweight forged piston. H beams, are heavier than I beams BTW. I liked the Mahles i got as well, they are very nice, come coated and with Rings.
BTW:I don't think there would be alot to gain with a ported intake with a cam that size, from what I have seen the ported intakes really only make a big difference about 6,000RPMS...and I doubt thats a usuable addition for you.
I would think a stall would be very beneficial to you. I think a ported Heads/cammed/bolt ons LT1 should have about a 3200 stall. I would probably do a shift kit, and tranny cooler for the tranny..then just run it til it starts to slip and then have it rebuilt with better stuff. Also what gears do you have? If its a 2.73 rear I would put gears on your list of things to get.

I would recommend the summit forged kit. I believe it is 600 total. It is the best price on pistons, bearings, freeze plugs etc. Look in the summit catalog. I am using this on my 7k spinning gm847 cam engine and it has held up fine for me so far.
I then went with some Eagle I beam rods and reused the stock crank.

Hey, i really appreciate the info guys thanks alot, and if anybody has anything else please chime in ....
also hey anybody know of a hp range i can get outta this cam with a good setup and im going ot do it right wiht a nice set of pistons and all.....also thanks for the indea on the stall im going ot try that and on gears ?? I dont know 410 is to much i think, would 373 be good??? Remember this is a daily driver and would like ot keep it that way even if it does rumble, rumble alittle heheheh

Re: Everybody Help Me Out Lt1 Motor Rebuild Need Some Info....
3.73's would be a great gear for a driver. As for a hp range, it really depends. With all the necessary bolt-ons, corresponding mods, and a good set of ported heads I would think between 340-360RWHP. Could be more, or less..but that should be a reasonable goal with an auto and those mods.
