Evaporative Emission Canister

I have a question.

I noticed on the Evap. Em. Can. there are three hoses. One from the engine, one to the fuel tank.. Is the 3rd just a fume exhaust that isnt connected?

One is the tank tube, one is the fresh air inlet tube, and the last is the purge tube.

When the engine is running, the fuel vapor is purged from the canister by intake air flow and consumed in the normal combustion process. There is a valve up on the intake about half way down on the passengers side.

Ok, maybe I'm not following here.. Im trying to replace the gas tank..

I'm looking at the canister.. One hose plugs in where the other hoses and electrical plugs are on the front of the wheel well on the car.. The other hose plugs into the gas tank.. I dont know where the 3rd hose goes is the problem and my repair manual doesnt say anything.

Where do it go or does it even do anywhere??? Its seems like a pretty ridged, straight hose..

The inlet comes from a connection on the TB. If I remember right it is on the DRV's side of the TB and goes under it to the purge solenoid. Check your emissions label on the radiator support. If yours is gone, I'll go check mine and see.

Are we talking about the canister in the back of the car next to the gas filling tube?

What Im saying is, I know which is the inlet and the outlet on the canister, but I have no clue where the THIRD hose goes...

The straight looking hose goes to the middle port (fresh air) on the canister. The other two hoses kind of turn down.

Well I guess my question is where the fresh air hose goes to after the canister, or does it go anywhere??

I put the fuel tank back in and and left the fresh air hose not plugged into anything. It ran fine, so I suppose it didnt need pluged it.

The fuel pump change was definantly a chore, getting the tank out. I think I will do the trap door on the rear hatch though

I talked to a friend of mine that works at a GM dealership service dept, he said it usually just goes to a hose the sits up on top of the gas tank. There may or may not be a small filter on the end of it. Sometimes when the gas tank is service for anything the dealership dont always put the filter back on, and they fall off sometimes.
