ET Change Going to 1.6 Rockers

For those who want to know, I changed over to Crane Blue Racer series 1.6 roller rockers from the stamped 1.5 stock ones. They required the use of guideplates and 7/16 studs. I also changed the valvesprings to the 612 ones sold by Combination Motorsports, and got the hardened pushrods as well for the guideplate addition.

My car, 1995 Z28 with 100,000 miles, no exhaust mods, stock cam, stock computer, stock converter, ran a best 14.10 @ 97 mph. After the 1.6 rockers were installed, I ran a 13.91 @ 99 mph. I feel that I left a bit of time on the table, and that the car could run faster given that it was pretty hot outside.

I was also shocked to find that the rockers fit under the stock valve covers with no trimming at all! So if you guys are looking for some decent rockers (no need to go overboard at the spring pressures we are using) that will fit under the valve covers, I would suggest these Blue Racer Series rockers. I got them off of EBAY for 159.00.

i dont see them on ebay - do you have a link?

that's a great price for rockers ... especially considering comp pro mag 7/16" go for like 240$ at LEAST ..... def. save some cash on a new set assuming these rockers will withstand a comparable beating (to that of the pro mags) and they're full roller rockers ....

good deal!

I only have the email of the guy I bought them from. It's been over 90 days since I bought them. His email is ebaysales@askmikee.com They were 149.00 plus shipping. Crane Blue Racer Series part number WG3063.

Yes, the valvesprings were original 100,000 milers and the heads have never been off either. You could feel the power dropping after 5000 with them. Now it pulls well to 5800 or so. If I had a programmer, I would set the shift point there. It goes to 6100 now which is a bit too far for the stock cam.

That's what I thought MTRHDS94Z!!!! They seem like decent quality to me, I mean, they are made by Crane. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33624 Check out this deal. I have ordered many parts from these guys and everything was great. Look at his feedback.

Blue racer is crane's budget line. They have a whole "blue racer" line of parts.

chrism400,
Isn't that too much spring for the stock cam? Have you checked the installed height, or did you just put the springs on and that was it?
I have the same valvesprings with Comp Pro Mags, and I want to install them on the stock cam, too.

Thanks.

The Combination Motorsports guys told me that the 612 springs were fine for stock rollers. They are 130 lbs at the seat and somewhere in the 360 range open I think they told me. Guys are running as high as 160 lbs at the seat with stock rollers and no problems from what I hear. Shoebox put these 612's on his car and checked the installed height and pressure and they were exactly on the money so I never checked mine. I just followed what he did because believe me, he knows what he is doing!

I plan on running the car again next week with a 160 deg thermostat and manual fan switch. Stay tuned.

Hey I remember Wolverine Blue Racer.

Didn't know Crane bought em though.

Let us know how they hold up chrism. The real test of a rocker is endurance... well that and whether the ratio is close or "off" (tolerances).
