Estimated Hp with setup-and help me choose next mod!
Hey guys, I am new to the lt1's and have these mods so far:
Hypertech chip
edelbrock headers
high flow injectors (not sure specs)
k&n cone filter
underdrive pulley
comp cams air foil
gutted mass air flow
flowmaster cat back w/ 4 3" tips and 3" piping
high flow cat
6 speed with short shift
performance clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate
zr1 wheels w/ 315/35/17's on the rear
ram air hood
What type of hp/torque ratings do you think I should be pulling?! What next mod should I do? I was thinking high flow throttle body? Any brands that you guys use that you recommend? Thanks-

Re: Estimated Hp with setup-and help me choose next mod!
You have a good starting point but there are a few things that I am goin to recommend as fas as brands and such. Instead of getting a hypertech programming which doesnt do a whole lot for lt1 cars, I would suggest getting a custom mail order tune from one of the guys on the board. They can give u everything a hypertech could plus more and also for a lot less money. I havent heard a whole lot about the Edelbrock headers so I am going to suggest some brands that I have heard about such as Pacesetter, Hooker, Jet-Hot and AS&M. Underdrive pullies wont really do a whole lot for you so I would suggest holding back on those for a while. Also, a bigger throttle body isnt a must until u get up to around 450 horsepower. I am going to say with the mods u have listed and plan on doing u should be somewhere in the 300rwhp range. Good luck with whatever u decide. Peace, Dustin.

helps if we knew what car you're starting with...
i agree...ditch the hypertech and get a mailorder tune. unless you are tuned for the bigger injectors they are possibly hurting you mroe than helping.
i would suggest getting longtube headers over the shorties, or doing suspension and maybe gears.

I'm going to be getting cold air intake and a cam swap, both at a good price I'd go with SLP cold air induction and not Ram Air if I were you. ram air is expensive while SLP cold air is $189. A new cam and lifter kit you can get for cheap too, around $400+ depending on what cam you go with.
Re: Estimated Hp with setup-and help me choose next mod!
Next mod I would say is lots of reading on your car/motor. I just finished my cam swap, took a long time, but was never out more than $150 at a time.
You can do a cam over time at low cost if you try.
I would say cam or bottle. If you want track times, bottle. I sold my bottle so I could do the cam setup and am happy I did. Dialy I feel much more power, but hope to spray again soon. If you are a track nut I say bottle. (And a 12 bolt will be in OUR future)

I assume you have an OBD1 PCM since you have a "chip".
Whoever you bought the car from should be able to give you more information on the injectors and other stuff (unless you bought it from a dealer, in which case you probably don't really know what you have.)
You need to determine what your expectations are, the type of driving you intend and (most importantly) how much money you have to play with.
I'd consider going back to a stock MAF for one thing. Once you determine what you have you will be in a better position to see where you are and how to get where you want to be.
If you just bought the car and aren't certain what you have, you really need to determine how it is running and check things like oil, plugs, S belt, leaks, sound, etc. By the looks of your MODs,I'm guessing that the previous owner just threw parts at it without considering what he/she was doing, e.g., why would one go with bigger injectors, HD clutch, etc without putting in a cam, RRs, head work, etc?
I.e, make sure of what you really have and how it is performing before you leap into the MOD game. And remember the usual reason someone sells a car, especially one that is modded, is because it either has something wrong with it that will require some major work (which is why you don't want to throw money into something that is probably going to blow up.)JMHO

Re: Estimated Hp with setup-and help me choose next mod!
Sorry i didnt realize u already had those mods on your car. Since u already have Edelbrock shorty's I would leave those for now until u plan on doing cam and such and then get some long-tubes which i plan on doing also. I say some 4.10 gears are next in line for mods. Then get some good tires and some suspension mods like sub-frame connectors, lower control arms and pan-hard rod. I also recommend a T/A aluminum cover to help make your rear-end last as long as possible. Get all this done and I can see u crackin off a high 12 in the 1/4.
Re: Estimated Hp with setup-and help me choose next mod!
The TA aluminum differential cover, is that what you are talking about? I have some zr1 wheels w/ 315/35/17's on the back. Do you think 3.73's will be stout enough for my everyday driver? What brand/setup do you recommend me using for the gears? Also what rpm should I spin at 70mph with a 6 spd?! Thanks D.A.--

Very nice!!! I think that is what I am going to end up getting. Stock gearing is like 3.42 so will the 3.73's actually do much though? I also lost the hypertech chip (had a 95 in on my 96!!! )Thanks--
Re: Estimated Hp with setup-and help me choose next mod!
I didn't notice much if anything with the 3.73 swap, shoulda went 4.10. Anybody else notice extremely minimal gains from the 3.73 swap from 3.42. I mean I know its there, but it was minimal at best.
