ok this has happened to me earlier on, car stopped w/out reason while driving 3 times, didnt bring it in because it stopped doing it, now my car wont start at all, i put key to on position w/out cranking it and every other time i hear a noise, sounds like a bolt getting thrown around. i hear the fuel pump go on, and the car cranks, wht worries me is tht sound in the engine bay, sounds close to the fuse box. also where is the starter on the car, 95 z28 camaro lt1 engine

 

do you have any codes?? also the started is on the passengers side of the car, lower side of the motor... the best thing i can say is scan for some codes there has to be some if the cars is shuting off....

 

i wish it was as simple as tht, i dont have a code reader, and if i could get it started and the serv engine light were on, i could just take it to autozone, but otherwise i dont have the code reader. im gonna get a haynes prolly, check to see if fuel is getting to the engine first. cuz it only makes the noise when its set to on position, not cranking.. it does crank tho

 

maybe its the key, because at times it does tht noise, three dings kinda and during u hear a beep.. cuz i have tht pass key thing.. im gonna have the key checked at a dealer shortly

 

ok changed fuel filter, and the dealer said the key was fine. the noise sounds like a coin dropping into a coin machine in a way, and it sounds like its coming from next to the master cylinder, or that area

 

Describe when you hear the noise like only before you crank it or after you start to crank it. Also is the security light on or flashing?

Autozone can't scan your car, they only scan OBDII.

I think you hear the theft deterrent relay buzing.

The starter is located on the passenger side of the car below the #8 cylinder.

 

only before i crank, i checked 2 spark plugs so far, 1 and 3 they both didnt spark. the security light goes on like normal then goes off

 

That sound you are hearing is probably your air pump working.Try pulling the relay for it and see if it still makes the noise.I had the same thing and it was that.

Just try pulling the relay I think it will get rid of the noise. The pump is on the bottom of the left side of the motor. Just try it, it is an easy thing to try.

 

yes, but tht doesnt solve the prob w/ getting it to work ya know?

 

does the engine turn and try to crank at all? does it make any other noises? Any clicking noises? Has it been cutting out or running bad recently?

no other noises, no clicking, it has cut out, turned off on me 3 times when it did run, and while driving the night before it wouldnt start, the pedal went to the floor once and nothing happened, but it just worked the second time i put pedal down, and yes it turns and cranks, no spark i found out in 2 plugs, fuel isgoing to rails

 

Pull the wire from the coil to the opti to see if the coil wire will spark. That should tell you if the problem is the coil or the opti because in order for the plugs to spark, the coil must spark first.
