engine/transmission rebuild????
So it seems I have 2 potentially major problems with my car.
1: My car doesn’t pass California SMOG. I think it's because my car has been burning oil for sometime. Now it will go through a couple quarts in a matter of a month but I cannot see anything leaking from underneath nor can I smell anything. Somebody mentioned to me it could be getting stuck in the cat. Last year when I changed out my plugs I did notice a little but of oil on cyl. 7. Do you think this means I will HAVE to rebuild my motor? Or is there an easier fix? Sorry but I'm too broke right now to rebuild anything! But if it must be, does anyone know a GOOD place in San Diego or Los Angeles area that won't gouge me either?
2: A few months ago my transmission would grind really band when I put it in 2nd gear and ever once in a while it would do it in 4th. It would still go in but on my 2nd or sometimes 3rd attempt. Now it will go into 2nd the first time if I really throw it in but 4th seems worse than 2nd now! Someone mentioned to me it could be the skip shift. My 95 had that but I don't believe my 93 does... anyone else had this problem?

The burning oil thing sounds like the COMMON intake manifold leak, easy fix. If that is it sounds like you have let it go long enough to hurt the cat too but still way cheaper than a rebuild.
Can't help with the tranny thing.

You must have misspelled something or searched the wrong section because my first search turned up like 800 threads
I had to narrow it down a tad after that. Has to do with the EGR hooking to the back of the intake, the exess heat is rough on seals.
