Engine temperature...

I have my car for about 2 months, so when I bought it was winter. During winter temp. my coolant temp was little bit over 160 degrees. Today was the first hot day in NYC and my temperature went to little bit more that the middle of the gauge (230?) I wasnt driving fast!!. Is that normal? I have power programmer so I could program my fans to turn on at 160 degrees, is this good idea?
Thanks

Also be sure the air dam is in place under the front.

if it was in your sig and I didn't see it, I apologize, but programming you fans to come on at 160* does you no good unless you have some sorta 160* thermostat.

I am not sure a Hypertech will even let you program it that low. Programming them at 185-190 is fine.

Yes it will. I have an option 160 or 180 degrees. I dont have 160 therostat. I did a search and some people are saying that 160deg. term. is not a good idea...What you think?

I think I know what you are referring to and what it is saying is "do you have a 160º or 180º thermostat?". That does not mean the fan ON temps are set to 160º or 180º (at least, not on mine).

a 160* thermostat is worth the $$$
the cooler your car runs, the better. Go out and spend
20$ on a 160* thermostat, you won't regret it, a simple modification that won't take more than 30 minutes.
I went to school in florida and believe me when I got stuck in traffic in 110* weather the car never went any higher than 190*.
Although I have my own autozone special rigged fan switch, and I have the fans cut on 160* as soon as the thermostat opens.

even if you do get the stat...which i highly recommend...i love mine...

you shouldn't put your fans on at 160...cause that means that they will probably even be running at highway speeds...which you don't need...

program them for 185 or 190 like shoebox said...he knows his stuff

Actually, I just looked at a dump of what is in my pcm and with the Hypertech fan programming for the 160º thermo, it shows my initial fan ON temp to be 209º (which BTW works fine). I happen to have a 180º thermostat in it right now and it still does well.

My 94 HPP turns fan 'on' at 192, 'off' at 185 when the '160 stat' option is selected...
213 'on' 205 'off' when 180 stat is selected, [stock 'on ' is 226]
I like my 160 stat.. no probs at all [save for slightly 'cooler' heat in the dead of winter..]
