Engine Suggestions

I was thinking of kicking out my 94 LT1. I have 110,000 miles on it.

Should I mod it or get something more powerful for under 7K.... I wouldn't want to pay more than 10K total after fixing up the tranny though. My car is all stock.

You could probably stroke it for that price. I'm sure some 383 guys will chime in.

if you are confident enough to build your own motor, combination motorsports sells a completely forged and ballanced 383 rotating assembly for $1,700 ...my motor knocks real bad, gonna need a rebuild, and thats what im gonna go with.

get heads ported, LT's, gears, some slicks, and a good cam you'll be in the 11's ...should be able to do all that for less than 10k

The first question you should anwser is what your goals are, and what you expect the car to do once your done.

WOW.....thats exactly what I did and was planning. I totally rebuilt my tranny and stroked my motor. I was planning on spending about 8k on it. After all the lil things and mods for the mods, I figure I'm about 10 into it now. The only diff is that I did the removal, rebuild and install myself. Its not near as hard as you would think. Just take about 300 dig pictures before, during and after its all apart and get a million ziploc bags to label all the bolts. Every single one of my bolts I removed went back excelpt the ones I removed like the Air, Egr and stuff.

As far as the engine goes, get a good manual and a friend who knows a lil to help ya out. Like my machinist told me. "80% of engine rebuilding is planning, 20% is doing it."

Let me know if ya need anything. I know how it feels, be glad to help where I can. I am in no means and expert or even close but I'll help if I can.

Have you beefed up the rear yet. That much HP/Torque will kill it

you best hope so . The auto will keep it together longer, but once you take it to the track and put some sticky tires in the rear, and it hooks then bye bye rear.

110k isn't much if its in good condition. It's getting up there.. but should still have plenty of life left for you to beat out of it IMO .

I'd pick up an extra LT1 block & slowly acquire parts & build something up over time.

This is my only car and i need it for work so it can't be sitting around in pieces for more than a weekend. Plus I have no idea what to get how much the items should cost etc... So i'd probably have to haev someone do it for me. I know people who know what their doing... but their not really 'my friends'

About what i'm looking to get outta it... i'd like to knock it up to at least 400hp at the flywheel, nothing outrageous. Something that will get me around a 12.6-13.0 at least knock a second or two off my 1/4. I haven't raced it since 85K so i bet i would run a 14.2-14.4 now. I figure for 8K worth of parts I should be able to accomplish that.

Only thing that I question is hte rest of my car other than the engine and drivetrain. its a 94 its gettin a lil older, I don't wanna have to be droppin tons of money on maintenance for years to come.

I was thinkin of just saving for a year or two and picking up a slightly used Z06 405.

Phils got the best idea since you said you cant have the car hung up too long. Thats if the motor is still okay and your just wondering how much longer you got on it. I would do just that. Start building on as you have the time, then when the other one goes you can just swap them out.
