Engine sitting for 3 years.

Looking for a little advice. 3 years ago I pulled the heads an intake off my lt1' only tear a joint in my shoulder, making me useless for a year, and haven't been able to get to it since. I put some oil on the pistons and the cylinder walls, and wrapped the motor the best I could. Well now is the time to put It back together and start it up.

I will be pulling the tank and doing the fuel pump, cleaning it out. Any steps I should take before starting it up with the new heads and valve train? I have not put anything together yet.

Re: Engine sitting for 3 years.

I'd turn it over a few times by hand, then crank it with the starter motor a few times until you get oil pressure... but that's just me. You should be good to go otherwise. 3 years isn't all that long.

Not a big deal, if it turns over you are ok. Mine was sitting close to 6 years with dropped valve in a '97 T/A, head off. Fixed it this year and it's running great.

Were your heads and intake off the car like mine?

Re: Engine sitting for 3 years.

I'd probably rent a priming tool and prime the system without turning over the engine. When oil appears at a few of the rockers, turn the engine over by hand until all of the rocker show oil. Then Bol it back together and enjoy!

I'm not sure how I am going to prime it with it still in the car.
