Re: engine rebuild cost estimate?

well, while it's all apart it's a good idea to replace them all any way, but the guy will probalby charge you for each estimated hourly charge. they use a book that tells the estimated time of completion for any job. the thing is, they don't combine the work efforts, unless it's somehting like a tune up as opposed to plug change. it's like changing the axles and the brakes at the same time...brakes are estimated at say 30 min for a mechanic to replace. whether it takes him hours or 5min, he'll charge you for 30 min labor. it takes 2 hours to change the axles...well, if you have to remove the brakes to get to the axles, he's likely to still charge the extra 30 to remove the brakes even though he had to just to get to the axles.

unless you know the guy, he'll charge the estimated time to do everything, even though he has the stuff apart already. i have a mechanic i go to on my military base, and if he has something apart, he's not going to charge me the time it took to take it apart again when it's alread disassembled. it's a way for them to skim a little off the top, legally.
