Question Engine Rebuild Advice

Ok guys. Just got word from GMR speed that I need my engine rebuilt to solve it's knocking and occasional misfire problem! DAMNIT! I guess it has something to do with the rod bearings. They said it COULD be fixed without a rebuild, but they wouldnt do it or reccomend it....why is that? Anyways, they want over 2500 for the rebuild which is not happening. I will either let a guy I know do it, or do it myself with the help of my mechanic friend. My other option is buying a brand new engine from advance auto for 1300 bucks (employee discount). On those new engines, what needs to be purchased to make it operable as far as new sensors and other parts. Remember, I would be taking parts off my old block such as alternator, oilpan, etc. What would you guys reccomend. Thanks!

Try doing it yourself. Nothing more fun than building your own motor.

If your going to have to pull the motor and put a new one in, get something better whether you build it yourself or have someone else build it.

Personally I wouldn't put another stock LT1 back in.

I would try and buy a new or forged short block (no heads) and get the LE1 or 2 package. Pay to have it put together and then you put it in your car.

I wouldnt think there would be any sensors you would have to buy unless yours are broke. You may need bigger injectors and a better fuel system but check with loyd or who ever you would get the heads and cam from.

I would pay a machine shop to put the shortblock together and you do all the other work.

Should run you about $700 from the machine shop if you have all the parts. That included polishing of my crank.

Re: Engine Rebuild Advice

Thanks a lot guys. I'm probably going to do the rebuild myself. Will look into hardened rods, roller-rockers, forged pistons, cam, etc. The beauty of it is, the dealership is paying !

Thanks again.
