Thought some may want to see how I did it.

 

That is how I did it. I did use an ATV jack under the k-member which made it easier to drop and lift back up into position.

 

so how were you able to jack it up high enough to stack up all that wood and get the stands under it?

 

I lifted the body up with the cherry picker once the K-member was detached. I lifted byt the crossmember near the radiator. At that point it is not very heavy.

 

I used the shop crane that you see in the pic - orange on far right side. The 2x4s are not stacked. They are held together with wood screws. I used interior stud 2x4s because they are pretty light and I didn't want to drop one of my hang-downs into my sock when I picked it up to move around.

 

Yep dropping a "hang down" would be real bad

Good engineering on the stands, probably a couple of different places use them, maybe like rebuilding the rear end. I need to pull my worn out 10-bolt, I think I'll build some.

 

Ive got a good one of the engine bolted to the cradle having been rolled out from under the car with the front tires still mounted. I had a 1 ton jack supporting the tailahaft of the trans.

 

I rolled my engine/tranny out on a $18 Harbor Freight furniture. Its hard to see in the pic because it is covered with a black trash bag.

 

i got a 95 z28 that i just pulled the motor out of. The motor can come out of the top. All you got to do is remove the radiator, all your pulleys, and intake manifold and it can come out the top.

 

but if you do it out the bottom you don't have to remove the radiator (and drain coolant, fill, bleed, etc.), all the pulleys or intake manifold .

I didn't jack the car anywhere near that high when I did it. I pretty much just pulled the body up with the engine hoist and put cinder blocks under it, but whatever works.

 

You don't need all that wood under the front either. I used a decent size pair of jackstands (normally used with my 4X4) and it gets the front plenty high enough. If you remove the front wheels, you can lower the car down onto a dolly, reach in and pull the 6 bolts holding in the K member and then lift the body using an engine lift and slide the whole damn thing out in one piece. Really easy to do....
