engine missfiring

I was out one saturday night in my car (97 Z28 a4) and all of a sudden my engine (LT1) started ticking, or atleast I thought it was ticking. I went to my mechanic and he said that my number 7 cylinder was miss firing. the ticking noise was my spark shooting out of the wire, there wasnt a good connection between the two. so i went ahead and went under my car started peeking around and I found out that my spark plug was loose. I was wondering if any of you guys had a problem with their spark plugs becoming loose too. and also has anyone heard of a spark plug wire being stuck to the manifold and getting a hole burnt in it? thats what happened to my number 7 cylinder wire, some how it melted to the manifold, dont know how or when but that was a major problem. and how long am I able to drive the car with this problem and not hurt the engine?

Re: engine missfiring

Burnt plug wires is very common mostly on cars that people have installed headers. As long as you made sure to keep them from touching the manifolds using the wire routing hold downs / zip tie it shouldn't happen again.

Yes spark plugs do then to come loose on our cars. If you hear that ticking sound most likly that's it. As for the wire if the wire are laying on top of a hot sarface the wire will break down the protecting coating and now the spark will find it way out, to short the wire out especialy if your using stock 7mm wire. Just up grade to a 8mm wire and route them away from high heat areas.
