Engine Light & Air Pump
I have a 95 z28. My engine light is constantly on--except when I'm at a complete stop. When the light is on, the fan seems like it is working--it's exceptionally loud. When I scanned it, it said something about irregular voltage to the air pump....I also noticed the fuse (air pump) consistently gets blown...
Has anyone else expereinced this problem..if so, how do I fix?
New air pump?

New air pump?
Re: Engine Light & Air Pump
It is a problem with your air pump. The fans come on because when the fuse blows the PCM goes into limp mode. I have a brand new still in the GM box air pump if you are interested. CLICK HERE TO EMAIL ME
Re: Engine Light & Air Pump
There is a factory recall on the 1995 and newer AIR pumps - free repair. Check with your dealer first.
In the meantime, unplug the harness connector from the side of the AIR pump. Put a good fuse in the circuit. The SES light will go out, the fans will behave normally. Works on OBD-I only.
"Limp home" mode is something much more severe than the PCM's response to the DTC 29 (= Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump circuit, the only code in OBD-I for AIR). Turning the fans on is not quite the same as "limp home", which is only used when just about every input to the PCM has failed.
