Yes it could be several things. You sure it is a knock and not a ping?

Not sure how unplugging the spark plug is going to help at all. If a rod or main bearing is bad it will only continue to get worse the more you run the motor.

There's no way to fix that w/o taking the motor apart.

If you are talking about pinging, then that's a whole different issue.

Basically we need more information before we can help you.

If you still have the oil pan off, make sure you try to move all the rods around just to make sure they're all ok. Also look at the sides of the cylinder walls for vertical scraping, this can indicate severe piston slap or a worn out wrist pin. Is there metal shavings in the oil, shiny like a bearing surface? I also suggest you readjust your valvetrain and make sure you do it properly, use the search on this site. If that doesnt help you should inspect your lifters to make sure they're all ok. And check for exhaust leaks or exhaust rattle, which can sound like a knock sometimes.

Among other things, if the engine knock is detonation, it can be caused by some bad gas. If your octane isn't good, it's possible that you could be experiencing detonation. Fluctuating temperatures can cause condensation in the gas tank, leading to this poor octane rating.

Use a stethoscope. Very interesting what you pick up when you start using it and learn what the different sounds are.

Unfortunately, this is when it is running you do this.

How does the car run? Its possible to have overtightened the rocker arms.

ok heres the deal its not the rocker arms period. if you watch the video above that is what it sounds like. i had the knock with all the stock componets so its def. not the rockers or lifters or an exhaust leak. its def lower end. i think its rod knock. i thought it was a spun beraring. could it be a wrist pin? the car runs fine it just has a real loud knock not a tic.

ok i found out that it is the number 8 cylinder with the problem. when i went to take the rod bearing off, the rod was real loose on the crank. do you think i may have damaged the crank?
