Engine install

On a 1995 Z28 is it possible to install the motor from the top with the front cover, oil pan, and intake already installed? Or should I ask what all can be installed before stuffing it in from the top?

Yes it is possible, but the radiator and condensor definitely need to be out. There's been those who've done so with headers on as well.
Do a search with something like "engine from top" or similar and you should come up with some info.

just be careful not to hit the cowl when lowering the motor in, you could crack the windshield if you hit it hard enough

thats not true, and anyone who has done both will tell you the same. it is very simple out the bottom. it is possible out the top but much more time consuming and difficult

Thanks guys. I took it out the top by the book, but removing the intake was a pain in the car. So all I can put on before going back in will make it much easier. I already have the condenser and radiator out. This is a complete rebuild heads already on just wondering how much more could be done before install. It's taking a little longer than I wanted. But part of that is my fault since I have limited time to work on it when I'm not traveling on business. So each step that makes it easier will be helpful. Plus my son is itching to get to driving his car. And I wish I could have been able to get it out the bottom would have been lots easier, but couldn't get it high enough.

I would much prefer to lower the k-member than take it out the top - just my opinion

Agreed - here's a howto (and you don't need a lift)
http://www.michiganspeed.com/enginepull/index.html
It makes everything so much easier.

It's also a great excuse to install a tubular Kmember and drop 30lbs

I make a habit of printing useful documents to .pdf so I can find them later
when someone takes their page down. The added bonus is that the .pdf
retains the hyperlinks, so I can always go back to the original page (if it exists)
and share the link or look for updated info.
