engine cleaning

i want to clean the car out of gunk and carbon to maybe see if thats causing some of my spark knock. just wondering the best way to do it. i know a lot of people talk about seafoam but i dont want to destroy my o2 sensors and catalytic converter. i know some garages offer some kind of cleaning for fuel system which cleans carbon and all that out also. not sure if its any good though.

Re: engine cleaning

I used to work at a car shop. They use a 3 part engine cleaning system. The company is BG (where I worked) They just spray it into the TB. Then they remove the EGR and run some though there, and finally through the injectors. Seafoam is basically the same thing. Just pour I belive 1/2 can in the oil, use the brake booster hose and suck in a can through that, and finally pour the other 1/2 of the can (from the oil) into the gas tank. I havent ever had a problem with it screwing up my 02's so all in all 2 cans and a driveway
