Emmisions Legal Headers for a '95

I've been looking for some nice headers for my '95. The catch is, I have to pass the sniffer test anually. This seems to slim my choices considerably. I was looking into the MAC headers, but they seem kinda cheap. Id rather spend a little more and get a nicer set of headers if possible. What is my best choice? Most of what I've seen on the board consists of people with off-road set ups.

I looked into long tubes, but no one makes an emmisions legal set up do they? I've seen the dual cat set ups for the LS1s, but with a single cat car I cant even think of how that is possible. Can I retrofit to a dual cat 96-97 set up and run long tubes?

Basically I want the most power I can get at the best price possible. Any suggestions? I'm a poor college kid who invests all of his money into his car, so dont break the bank too bad.

AS&M mids. They pass with a functional cat.

I bought Hooker shorties from Jet Hot. They make really good longtubes so their shorties should be adequate right?

I have seen these. Are they good? Theres also the SLP's at a comprable price. The only thing is theyre gonna run ~$750.

Spending that much will definately set me back. It may be worth it though.

You should be able to pass the sniffer with LTs no problem or the worst case scenario would be that you would have to get a PCMforless tune for 99 bucks. You should pass the sniffer though with the LTs. Try the new Jet-Hot LTs at about 500ish.
So youre saying that in a worst case scenario, with a computer tune I should be able to pass the sniffer test even without a cat? That's interesting, but I do also plan on doing 1.6 rr's in the near future as well. With the rockers do you think its still possible?

Also, would I be able to do this tune myself, or would I have to find a shop? I know you can order the program, but I'm assuming you'd need soem type of knowledge to properly tune the car.

Finish Line Performance makes what they consider emmission legal, but truth be known moving the cats further back reduces heat therefore reducing it's ability to burn up unspent fuel and that could have an effect on the sniff. here is a link to their setup it's not cheap at all and honestly I don't like it because the ypipe is only 2-1/2" which is stupid in my opinion.

My car passed the sniffer without a catalytic converter. Passing visual is another thing entirely though.

I've been thinking of some creative ways to making a fake shell out of my old cATS that I can fit over the ypipe.

That's what I was gonna do. I ended up having a buddy pull some strings at the emmissions place Next year I'm gonna have to gut a converter, cut it in half and put it on my exhaust.

You could always put a cutout before the cat and just cap it up when you get it inspected. Thats what i do. Got my car inspected on saturday..............works everytime.

OK guys, now I'm thinking Hooker LT's, with a mufflex Y-pipe. I'll have to save a little bit more but it should be worth it. Now, heres a question. If I decided to put a cat on after the Y-pipe- would it be too far away from the motor to get hot? I'm not exactly sure how different the exhaust set up would be with the long tube set up.

To make an "off road" pipe with the cat still attached, all that you have to do is cut the 2 1/2" ends off far enough to fit a 3" pip through, gut the cat, and then weld in the 3" straight pipe. That will pass the visual and you will still have an off raod pipe that you don't have to swap with a cat every time you get tested.
