Electric Water Pump Questions??

Hey guys. I searched the old threads but I could not find anything that answered my question. So here is goes.

My 1994 Z28 has always had cooling issues. Mainly under more stressful conditions like uphill, lower speed, on a 100+ summer day or in traffic the thing gets too hot. Meaning having to pull over and wait for it to cool off because it was in the red. I have the manual fan switch so I can have the fans on high all the time and the radiator in clean and fairly new.

So my question is to those that have put electric water pumps in their LT1's, do they significantly lower the engine temperature? Also, if you used one what manufacturer do you recommend?

Thanks!

figure out why your car is overheating, a electric water pump is nice but not a cure for an overheating engine

it should not get in the red on the gauge, if your running the fans on high and it still overheats you have problems

Agreed, EWP won't fix whatever problem it is you are having.

Hmm, in that case, have any suggestions what the problem might be?

Radiator close to new
Coolant level always full
Fans on high

Those things aren't the problem.

Thanks.

There is probably air in the system, it needs to be pressureized to increase the boiling point of the coolant, if there is air in the system this will not occure. Do a search for bleading the system and you should find how to do it. if this doesn't work check your thermostat, put it in a pot of water and see what temp it opens at.

Hows your thermostat, is it LT1 specific, and what temperature is it? Are you sure you dont have any air in you cooling system? How old is your coolant, and what type/mixture are you useing? Are you sure your water pump and fans are working propery? Just some things to thing about.

I have done all sorts of things with the thermostat. I have replaced it several times, I have tried no thermostat (that was a test). I think it is in the range of 160-180 degrees, I think. I have to check the records on that. I always do check my thermostats in the boiling pot of water. I am quite sure there is no air in the system, I bleed the thing whenever I mess with it. The mixture is not all that well balanced. But the fluid in the system is fairly fresh. My fans work I can hear them both going.

The water pump was replaced also, that was a while ago, yet it had the problem before and after.

The issue really only shows up when I am stuck on traffic or a slow uphill climb during really warm weather. The way is reacts though is just not right.

Thanks for the ideas guys, I can check into some other things that your suggestions made me think of.

huh, thats wierd man, i ran a 160* stat and in 90* weather it never went over 180-190... how about your emissions stuff? I'm not really sure if that would cause a big difference in operating temperature since i don't have that stuff anymore, haha, good luck!
