You have to remove the intake to push the shaft out. If you have it off just hit it with a hammer should come right out. Timing chain would have to come off to. Sorry but I can't remember what size freeze plug to use.

Why do you have to take the intake off? Can't you just remove that gear, and the shaft come with it? I just dont see what the intake has to do with it..

Re: Electric W/P owners..

you dont need to pull the intake off to get it out of the block, i know this because i didnt pull mine off, i just used a wonder bar or a big screwdriver and pried on either side until it came out. if you have your intake off by all means take that route, im sure it would be much easier, but it isnt required. also i did a search at the time about the plug, and it seems that some people put plugs in, some dont. so i opted not to. its been about 1500ish miles since then and i have had no problems yet

edit: apparently you replied while i was typing this, the gear has a bearing that is pressed into the block, the timing cover will have to be off in order to get it out. then you can plug the hole in the timing cover with a freeze plug (not sure on size, no parts store around here had the right size, so i bought a close one and sanded it down then jb welded around it to ensure i would have no leaks) man this was a long reply, hope i didnt bore you to death with info you didnt need

Ya, right now, the timing cover is off, and Id rather just remove it, while Im in there..I recently read that some guys use half-dollar coins to plug the hole, but what about the hole in the block, where the shaft/bearing use to be?? TIA

Re: Electric W/P owners..

the hole in the block i just left open, whats the worst that could happen? oil would go from the lifter galley into the timing cover, oh no more oil to keep the timing chain lubed lol. i did a search at the time i did mine and it was about half and half, half the people plugged it, half didnt.

I tried to get it off but was taking to much time. I knew it was pressed in so I just left mine in.

Re: Electric W/P owners..

I took mine out and had the machine shop put a freeze plug in its place.

Here is a picture of my block.

Here is a picture of the block with the timing cover installed.

I used two 1/4" washers and one 1/4"x3/4" bolt with a lock nut, nut and plastic washer so it would not leak.

Ok, I can put a freeze plug in the cover, but can I remove the shaft, but leave the bearing in the block? If not, how do I remove the block, with the intake in place?

Re: Electric W/P owners..

The bearing came out with the gear/drive on mine... I got mine out with a BF screwdriver as posted before. I just left the hole in the block open; and use a freeze plug in the cover.

All you have to do is press that gear off of the shaft.
