the egr what does it do and how does it affect my car the only thing it seems to affect is the smog which they told me my car will not pass anybody know what other affect it has on the car they said i need to replace it any help will be great

 

It won't pass the smog test without the EGR, been there done that. It revents emissions to heat up the block to make combustion as complete as possible.

more complete combustion = less emissions

If you follow your #7 header tubing there will be another pipe coming out of that and going to the back of the intake manifold into a thick disk thingy, the valve.

 

The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve manages NO emissions by cooling the combustion process. It introduces exhaust gas into the combustion chamber, thus diluting the the oxygen content (exhaust gas has already depleted the oxygen), generating a "cooler" explosion. Excessive NO emissions are a biproduct of excessive combustion temperatures.

 

Thats the more automotive way of what i said.

 

thanks guys so from what i got it only really affects smog not the performance of the engine

another question when i let of the gas 96 t/a manuel i get a little vibration throught what seems to be the drive shaft and also when i first take off or it does that gay shift between first to fourth gear i can feel the same shake you think it's the u joint's on the drive shaft

 

It can affect performance if the lack of EGR causes detonation. Knock retard will result. There is an EGR explanation on my Tech Page.

 

After reading your tech page, I think I will leave mine in place and just wrap the pipe in heat wrap!!
