!EGR question

I am making sure I have this correct, I did a search and this is what I believe I came up with. I have the headers capped, but I need the block off plate in back of the intake. I can use the lt4 plate(part number 10054880) to block it off. Someone who knows this, please say yes or no. Also, can I put the plate on without taking off my intake manifold?

You should be able to use the LT4 plate and there is no problem with doing it with the manifold on. Use a gasket with the plate. You might also consider getting a plate to put over the EGR pipe entry point into the manifold, to keep debris from getting in there. That plate will have to come from another source other than the dealer.

I heard that !EGR can cause you to burn up pistons? Can anyone verify this or was this just some idiot who didn't know what he was doing?

lol, that's all I needed to hear.

Will I have a problem if I only use the lt4 plate? You said debris could be floating around, where would this debris come from?

There is some credence to the thought. The EGR does lower combustion temperatures.

Foreign matter could get into the opening where the EGR pipe goes. If you were to decide to go back to using the EGR valve again, you would need to make sure this passage was clean (you would not have to if you blocked it with another plate). If you only use/keep a block off plate where the EGR vavle was, nothing can get into the intake.
