Re: egr malfunction

You can block off the EGR if you do not have emmisions testing in your area. You will also have to have the EGR deleted out of the PCM or you will get a SES light on a 97.

On 96 and 97 LT1s you can get the EGR valve fixed for free if you have under 100K on it. I will send you an email I recived a few years back with an attachment of a scanned GM recall sheet. The quality of the attachment really sucks but you can read it. I had to get the number off the top of the recal papaer for them to look up. Hope this helps

Re: egr malfunction

Are you sure the recall is still active? I looked it up and found that there were no recalls for a 1996 or 1997 camaro for the egr.

Remember Warbird please send me, andrewmirza@yahoo.com and 97pontta, Mastermatt88@yahoo.ie a copy of that email that pontta sent you.... Thanks

Well that is why you need the number off the paper. I went to the dealership when I wanted mine done and they told me there were no recalls. I went home and printed off the recall sheet and went back to the dealership. The service director looked up the number on the sheet and said that there was a recall after all. I had argued with the guy for 20 minutes before I brought the print off with me, after that they fixed it no questions asked

Ask Ion about this, but i think that all that happens when it is deleted is that it turns off the trouble code, the EGR will still try to function. If its gone, just nothign will happen, if its still all hooked up, then it will function the best it can.

I just left mine all hooked up b/c there are some benefits to the EGR.
