P0401 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Flow Insufficient

This code is very intermittant.

I get a rough idle when applying vacuum to the EGR so the diaphragm is holding up. Is carbon build up common? I dont ***** foot the lady, as I dont run ***** to the walls. The vacuum lines seem to be ok. Could it be the solenoid? How should I pinpoint?

Re: EGR...discuss

I would check for carbon build up on the valve and ports in the intake.

Re: EGR...discuss

I have to replace my EGR about every 35K Because it gets carboned up and leaks. Stes that code every time. I'm on the second one.

I'm still using the stocker; I cleaned it up really well inside when I did my cam last year. No problems.

Re: EGR...discuss

As long as the egr holds vacuum, there should be no reason to replace the unit. A good cleaning of the egr and intake ports is all that is needed.
