Then why do I always here of people wanting to bypass and delete them? I have heard they are a big reason for the LT1's spitting out so much carbon. I always thought they were just some emission's bs.

Because people don't always know why they do things. A normally operating EGR system does not hamper performance and also counteracts detonation.

It's not stock, but doesn't have much done to it. Stock it ran 14.5 @95 mph. Just has modified stock rockers, smaller pulley, headers/cutout, modified stock airbox and a maft+.

The reason I was pondering this is because my car has more than usual black smoke. And I am fixing to do my header install with new O2's and I want to do as much as possible while the car is apart. Any suggestions?
