e-brake handle flies up

Ever since I bought my car every now and then when I go to yank up on the e-brake it will fly up without any resistance while making a springing noise. If I put it back down and try it again it will usually work like normal. Just recently it has started to get worse, today I think it flew up 2-3 times before finally engaging. Anyone have this problem before?

Thanks

Dan

i was told that if you pull it up fast enough it wont engage the cable... dont know if that's true or not, but it sounds like it's possible, by the way all of my fourth gens do it, so it's sounds like a 'feature'
