Dyno Run/ Turd Alert

OK..... Dyno run a few days ago.....trying to figure what the problem is

250ish RWHP
280ish RWTQ

I have a cam between a CC305 and a CC306-custom grind
and i think the rest is in my signature

rebuilt bottom end > 355 forged rods/pistons

plugs look good by the way

A 304 cam is smaller than a 305 cam which is smaller than a 306 cdam

Yup that sucks, are you getting timing retard?
Are your rockers adjusted correctly?
Is that adj. fuel reg set right?
What about a tune?

Re: Dyno Run/ Turd Alert

Well given the broad description, your help could also be broad.

I am going to assume that the shop couldn't figure it out when it was gettin dyno'd, and just about every shop has a way to monitor A/F, fuel pressure, timin ect..

I am also going to assume that the car seemed to be runnin fine, otherwise you wouldn't be spinnin it on the dyno. So, all that bein said I would look more to a mechanical problem and not neccesarily a computer problem. If your timin gears are lined up correctly the computer can only do so much to make up for it, but if its gettin a good signal then its goin to assume that all is ok. You could also check your coil/ignition system amd make sure its gettin a good strong spark.

If your plugs look normal I would look more at a timin type issue, since if it was way rich or lean it would be apparent in the plugs.

Just my .02 based on your broad description...

Re: Dyno Run/ Turd Alert

alvin - the new cam is for the rebuilt bottom end the duration is 224 232 and the lift with 1.6 rockers is .579 / .589

fuel is exactly 42psi
WOT is 50 psi

the timing retard was tuned out, but is was at .1thru.4 on datamaster

timing gear is new -- cloyes double roller
dots match perfect

valves dont tick and it can rev up to 6700 no problem, just no power

In that case I say your rockers are too tight, causing the valve to not fully close and also not creating as much power...
How did you set them up?

Other things to think about are:
What is your base timing set at?
A/F Ratio?

BTW, what was your final CR after the rebuild?

Re: Dyno Run/ Turd Alert

i had the engine hot
bump it over...watch the lifters close+open and
find 0 lash
tighten 1/2 turn, tight poly lock

12.3 compression after all is done

dont sure what base timing is or what the a/f ratio is

Was this on a mustang dyno or a dynojet?

What type of rockers? Also there are varying ways of doing it but from what I hear that if you went 1/2 turn then you might have overtightened them. a lot of guys go between 1/8 - 1/4 turn past no drag when rotating the push rod. I assume this is what your refering to when you said "find 0 lash"....

Re: Dyno Run/ Turd Alert

yea thats zero lash

see it doesnt feel like a valve issue cause it drives fine without stumbling
its just weak

Adjust them when the car is running. Its the only good way to do it imho. back off untill it ticks, tighten just till it stops, then set preload.
